LIVING WITH HOSPICE, NOT DYING ON HOSPICE

\nHospice is about how you live. Hospice is a philosophy that benefits people of all ages at all stages of their lives by promoting and enhancing the quality of a patient\u2019s remaining life. Ventura Hospice care focuses on providing compassionate comfort care for those facing the end of their life. Our goal is to help the patient \u2014 and their family \u2014 live their final days to the fullest, as free as possible from pain and mental anguish while remaining in familiar surroundings.<\/span>

\nThe hospice experience can be more meaningful when it is provided over a period of months, rather than days. Hospice care focuses on alleviating suffering and improving quality of life, rather than aiming for curative treatments or extending life.\u00a0<\/span>

\nCREATING COMFORT
\n<\/strong>–<\/span>
\nThe focus of hospice care is on the patient \u2014 not the disease. Each family receives a customized plan of care. The goal of hospice is to relieve pain and the uncomfortable symptoms that are present as a result of a terminal illness \u2014 in the comfort of a person\u2019s home, nursing home or assisted living facility. Typically, a family member serves as the primary caregiver and, when appropriate, makes decisions for the terminally ill individual. Our Ventura hospice team members make regular visits to assess the patient and provide additional care or services. Families are never alone \u2014 our staff is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/span>

\nHOSPICE DOESN\u2019T MEAN GIVING UP HOPE
\n<\/strong>–<\/span>
\nHospice is not \u201cgiving up\u201d \u2014 it is comfort and support. Even though death can lead to sadness, anger, and pain, it can also lead to opportunities for reminiscing, laughter, reunion, and hope. The Livingston support team\u00a0assists each family in navigating the effects that a terminal illness can have on their plans, aspirations, and relationships. They provide valuable tools to facilitate communication and offer support to help families cope during this challenging time.\u00a0<\/span>

\nENOUGH TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
\n<\/strong>–<\/span>
\nThese are simple \u2014 yet profound \u2014 words that capture the intent of hospice.\u00a0As death approaches, we create a compassionate and comforting environment to provide solace and reassurance.\u00a0Families are encouraged to stay close, but not interfere.\u00a0Simply holding the patient’s hand and gently repeating a reassuring phrase can help them find the strength to complete their final journey.\u00a0Once a patient has died, our hospice team will help the family in any way possible \u2014 honoring the wishes\/ customs of the family, coordinating with mortuaries, and arranging transportation. Support and comfort for each family member is offered and bereavement services are available. Whether volunteer or medical hospice, the compassionate hospice teams of Livingston\u00a0and Camarillo\u00a0Hospice are dedicated to provide the absolute best care to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of both the patient and their family.<\/span>
