On April 17, we\u2019ll gather for one of Livingston\u2019s most meaningful traditions as we reveal and celebrate this year\u2019s Mother\u2019s Day Honorees, two remarkable women whose love, strength, and compassion have left a lasting mark on their families and our community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Join us at our Annual Mother\u2019s Day Luncheon at the beautiful Las Posas Country Club for an afternoon filled with reflection, connection, and inspiration. The honorees will be introduced through heartfelt remarks from their families, sharing stories that capture the care, leadership, and generosity that define their lives.<\/p>\n

Proceeds from the event will support Livingston Cares, helping Ventura County residents recover at home, maintain independence, and receive the support they need during times of illness or loss. We are proud to honor Brianne McGrath and\u00a0 remember Patricia Liu Lowe for their longtime support and meaningful impact on Livingston and the families we serve<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div>

Pat Lowe began her life in a large, middle-class Chinese family. Her parents had eleven children, four of whom tragically passed away before the age of fifteen. She was held back from starting school until age eleven and ultimately completed only middle school before boarding a ship to America at the age of twenty.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Despite speaking little to no English, Pat attended and worked her way through Madison College in Tennessee. It was there that she met her future husband, Edwin, a Chinese, Spanish-speaking young man who was born and raised in Panama. After a very interesting courtship, they married in June of 1944.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Following Edwin\u2019s service in the military during World War II and his graduation from Loma Linda University\u2019s Medical School, the couple moved to Ventura County, where he established his general medical practice in Oxnard. Pat was not only a devoted and supportive wife, but also a busy mother raising six sons and two daughters. She managed the family finances and invested in properties she believed were a \u201cdeal.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Education was central to Pat\u2019s values and, in her eyes, the surest way to secure a future. Through her generosity, she helped support the education of more than one hundred students, providing access to private Christian schooling both in the United States and abroad. This support spanned from elementary education and, in some cases, continued through medical school.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Through her determination and persistence, Pat was also able to bring all of her living siblings from China to Ventura County. Her strong faith and will, tireless work ethic, and generosity of both heart and means made her the unquestioned matriarch of the Lowe family. Her journey, from being labeled the family\u2019s \u201cBlack Goat\u201d and regarded as an uneducated girl, to becoming a wise mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and benefactor, is incredibly inspiring.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Brianna McGrath<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t

Brianne Johansen McGrath was born just before the end of World War II in Toronto, Canada. Her father, Kaj Johansen, a Danish national, escaped Denmark at the onset of the German occupation and joined the British Air Force in Canada. It was there that he met and married Brianne\u2019s mother, Evadne (Vadie) Lloyd-Jones.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After the war, the family moved to Denmark, reuniting with Kaj\u2019s family after five years with no contact. They lived in Copenhagen, where Brianne\u2019s middle brother, Paul, was born, before relocating to California in 1950. Her youngest brother, Erik, was born shortly thereafter. In 1956, the family settled in Camarillo, where Kaj worked as an aerospace engineer and Vadie served as a psychiatric nurse at Camarillo State Hospital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Brianne attended Camarillo High School, Ventura College, and San Fernando Valley State University. She met her wonderful husband, Tom McGrath, in Oxnard at a German Club dance, an event they both attended for the promise of inexpensive tickets to Europe. Tom and Brianne married in 1975 and raised four daughters: Marianne, Helen, Patricia, and Kailyn. Their family life took them from Oxnard to Somis and Camarillo, before they ultimately settled at Flying M Ranch in Bardsdale in 2003.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Tom and Brianne shared a deep love of travel and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on their daughters at sporting events. Once their girls were grown, Brianne returned to her creative pursuits, focusing on oil and watercolor landscape and portrait painting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Throughout their lives, Tom and Brianne were dedicated supporters of numerous community efforts, museums, and organizations, with Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association and the Boys & Girls Club of the Santa Clara Valley especially close to their hearts. The Tom McGrath Teen Center at the Fillmore Boys & Girls Club stands as a lasting testament to their commitment, a dedication their daughters continue through their own public service today.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After Tom\u2019s passing in 2013, Brianne moved to Ventura to be closer to her grandchildren, Marlowe, Tom\u00e1s, and Pedro, where she continues to reside.<\/div>\n
