HOSPICE
Who Will Pay?

Who Will Pay?
Hospice is covered by Medicare, Medi-Cal and many private insurance companies. The Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association is available to call and negotiate with your insurance company for hospice coverage.

Part A of the Medicare benefit covers hospice. The personal physician continues to see the patient as necessary, and can bill under part B.

Does hospice pay for the room and board in a nursing facility? No, the individual is responsible for his/her own facility stay. If a resident's room and board is paid by Medi-Cal, or long-term care insurance, they are also eligible for hospice services. One of the Medicare hospice benefits allows for a temporary stay of five days in a Skilled Nursing Facility to provide Respite for the caregivers.
